Holiday Parks Germany for UK Families

Every holiday park here is on Eurocamp's German list today. They're all inland, so the beaches you'll find are on lakes and not the North Sea or Baltic Sea.

Which holiday parks Germany offers will suit your family?

Start with your kids' ages, then pick your area on the map. A toddler needs a shallow pool close to your door. Teenagers want a zip wire or a roller coaster within reach. Size matters too: Sudsee Camp has 1118 pitches while the Herbolzheim campsite has 126.

Sudsee Camp: a pirate ship and a lake beach on the Lüneburg Heath

Sudsee Camp is a Lower Saxony campsite with a sub-tropical pool complex and a lakeside beach, while the protected nature area behind is good for hiking and cycling.

• Little ones: the pirate ship in the pool and the shallow children's bay in the lake water.
• Teenagers: waterslides and an adventure course with a zip wire.
• Evenings: discos and shows.

Heide Park is the amusement park your teenagers will ask for. It shuts for the winter and reopens for the Easter holidays in 2027.

Campingpark Gitzenweiler Hof: farm animals near Lake Constance

You're 5km from Lindau here, a harbour town on the water where Germany meets Austria. Younger children get the most out of Gitzenweiler Hof, with mountain views across to the Alps once you're off the campsite.

• A farm and bio garden with pony rides.
• Family and toddler pools with waterslides.
• A children's disco with an animation team.
• Playground areas plus trampolining nets.
• Basketball for teenagers.

Black Forest campsites close to Europa-Park

This is the pick if a theme park is the whole point of your holiday in Germany. Campingplatz Herbolzheim is a short drive from Europa-Park and the Rulantica water park, with Strasbourg airport 57km away across the Rhine in France. Check Europa-Park's season dates before you fix your week.

• Herbolzheim: a heated pool complex with waterslides and diving boards, plus a toddler pool.
• Kinzigtal: a heated outdoor pool with a slide, in riverside surroundings.

Landal Warsberg: vineyard views above Saarburg

Rheinland Pfalz, which UK maps call Rhineland-Palatinate, is the wine region for hills and vineyards. Landal Warsberg looks out over the Mosel Valley and a chairlift takes you down to Saarburg for waterfalls and a historic mill. Reichsburg Cochem, a castle further along the Mosel, makes a good day out.

• A playground plus trampolining.

Landal Wirfttal: the holiday park that stays open all winter

Landal Wirfttal is 1.5km from Stadtkyll in the Eifel and it's the only holiday park here that never shuts.

• An indoor swimming pool with a small slide.
• Fishing and pedalos on a private lake.
• A climbing wall with video games in the NXT LVL Activity Hall.
• Hiking trails nearby.

Eifel National Park is 35km away, with black storks and wild cats living in 110 square kilometres of protected nature.

Camping Spreewaldtor: lake access and Tropical Islands

Bring your bikes if you can. Camping Spreewaldtor in Brandenburg has direct lake access, but the real draw is the Spreewald, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of river channels you explore by punt or canoe, with hiking and cycling trails alongside. Tropical Islands is 25.3km from the campsite.

• A heated swimming pool with a children's pool.
• Kids' clubs plus extensive playgrounds.
• Nature trails and cycle hire.

Holiday village, campsite or holiday home in Germany

German parks come in two kinds and it's worth knowing which you're booking. Eurocamp's parks are campsites at heart: you rent a mobile home or bungalow while touring caravans fill the pitches around you. A holiday village is different. Think of Center Parcs in the Sauerland, the Land of 1,000 Mountains, which is all cottages and hotel rooms between the ski resorts of Willingen and Winterberg. That's closer to what people mean by a holiday home, so choose a village if a cottage matters more to you than a campsite pool.

One name catches people out: Holiday Park at Haßloch is an amusement park, renamed Plopsaland Deutschland in June 2025.

When's the best time to go?

Pack for warm days with a jumper for the evenings, going by these 1991 to 2020 average highs for Freiburg, in one of Germany's warmest regions:

• June: 24°C.
• July: 26°C, with rain on about 11 days.
• August: 26°C.
• September: 21°C.

School holidays in Germany differ by state. Brandenburg's 2027 summer break runs from 1 July to 14 August, so the Spreewald should be quieter in your last fortnight.

Driving or flying to Germany from the UK

Calais to Freiburg is about 640km, or roughly seven hours without stops, after a Dover ferry of around 90 minutes or a 35-minute Eurotunnel crossing. For the Lüneburg Heath or the Spreewald, your route runs across Belgium and the Netherlands instead. If you'd rather fly, London to Frankfurt takes about an hour and a half.

What UK drivers need on the Autobahn

• A reflective jacket the driver can reach from the seat.
• A warning triangle, strongly recommended.
• A UK sticker if your number plate has no UK identifier.
• Beam deflectors for your headlights.
• Your licence plus your V5 log book.
• Your insurance certificate.
• An approved child seat for anyone under 12 or under 1.5m.
• A green Umweltplakette sticker before you enter a city low emission zone.

Some Autobahn sections have no limit at all, with 130km/h recommended. You can't overtake on the right unless traffic's stationary.

Passports and EES at the German border

Check these on GOV.UK's Germany page before you leave:

• Your passport must be under 10 years old on arrival, with 3 months left after you leave.
• EES registration means fingerprints and a photo, taken before you leave the UK at Dover or Folkestone.
• Children aged 11 or under only have a photo taken.
• Germany has temporary checks at its land borders, so keep passports to hand in the car.
• You can't take meat or milk products into the EU, so don't pack the bacon. Powdered baby milk is one exception.

Taking your dog to a German holiday park

Every holiday park above takes pets in some form. Follow GOV.UK's steps in this order:

1. Microchip your dog before or at the same time as the rabies jab.
2. Wait at least 21 full days after a first rabies vaccination.
3. Get an animal health certificate from your vet within 10 days of entering the EU, because you can't use a pet passport if you live in Great Britain.
4. Have a vet treat your dog for tapeworm 24 hours to 5 days before you're back in Great Britain.

Do German holiday parks have kids' clubs?

Some do. Sudsee Camp and Landal Warsberg both list them, as does Camping Spreewaldtor.

What if it rains all week?

Pick a park with an indoor pool so the weather doesn't matter, such as Sudsee Camp or either Landal park in Rheinland Pfalz.
